Erling Haaland broke the record with his 50th Premier League goal as Manchester City and Liverpool drew 1-1

Erling Haaland scored his 50th goal in his 48th appearance as Manchester City and Liverpool drew 1-1 on Saturday, breaking Andy Cole's Premier League scoring record.

Haaland took the lead in the 27th minute with a powerful left-footed shot past Alisson. The 23-year-old Norwegian has scored in nine of Manchester City's 13 games this season.

Cole scored his 50th Premier League goal in his 65th game of the 1994-95 season. In his first season and a half in the Premier League, the striker made 58 appearances for Newcastle and scored 43 goals, before moving to Manchester United to achieve that figure.

Haaland's first season in England last season saw him set a Premier League season record with 36 goals as Manchester City won their third consecutive league title.

Haaland was a goalscoring machine wherever he went. In his last season with Red Bull Salzburg, he scored 16 goals in 14 games. After moving to Borussia Dortmund, he made 67 appearances and scored 62 goals in three seasons. Currently at Manchester City, he not only holds the record for the fastest player to score 50 goals in the Premier League, but also the fastest player to score 30 goals in the Champions League.

With an average of 100 goals, Haaland will be able to catch up with Alan Shearer, who has scored in 124 Premier League games.

The Premier League has a new leader

And although Haaland broke a new record, he would have happily taken three points instead. Manchester City led for 53 minutes and shared the points with Trent Alexander-Arnold's equalizer in the 80th minute.

The result opens the door for Arsenal to beat Brentford 1-0 later on Saturday and move ahead of Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the English Premier League.
